OMG I’m Gonna Die.

OMG I’m Gonna Die.

This morning I opened up an email from one of the internet’s most popular medical newsletters.
This famous physician is extremely knowledgeable and influential. He was one of the people who brought EFT, the Emotional Freedom Technique into the mainstream due to his wide readership.

I opened his newsletter because his headline made me feel nervous and I realized that I had to read it.
The headline read:

If You Go To Church, Heed This Warning

Here’s the weird part about my response. I DON’T GO TO CHURCH.

Take a look at a sampling of a few of his recent scary headlines. The corresponding text in his newsletters can be pretty frightening too.

This Supermarket “Health Food” Killed These Baby Rats in Three Weeks
Worse than Bad Advice – This Can Lead to Seizures, Paralysis, Blindness, and Death
The Cancer Time Bomb Sitting in Your Refrigerator – Will You Stop Consuming It?

So why did I feel compelled to go further and open his mail? It certainly wasn’t because I was curious.

It was sheer fear. A worry, panic, stress response. I HAD to read it.

During breakfast, Michael and I were talking about this newsletter. He hates
these newsletters because he feels that the facts are sensationalized for the sole purpose of getting attention and making sales.

He chooses not to welcome this newsletter and it’s negative energy into his inbox. He doesn’t want to react in fear.

While sipping my coffee (probably laden with carcinogins) I started to worry about my recent flu shot and if the Pringles I ate last year were going to kill me. At that moment it occurred to me that I always feel worried about my health after I read his newsletters.

The oldest media trick in the book is to use headlines to create panic and stress and watch the sales go up, Up, and UP!

Look up now at the subject line for this newsletter.

It’s ironic that no matter who we are, and how calm and relaxed we live our life, it’s human nature to respond to these headlines.

You can let your responses eat you up with worry and stress, or you can intentionally choose new thoughts and feel better.

My upcoming book, Powerful Thinking on Purpose, shows you how easy it is to choose your thoughts wisely, reduce your stress, and feel better.
I love the title, and I’m waiting for a blast of inspiration for a great sub-title.

Any ideas?

If It’s in Your Mind, We Can Help

Fears, worries, and stress are feelings that are in your mind.

When these negative thoughts get in the way of your life, then it’s time to seek help.

Full disclosure here: I’m not a miracle worker though I happen to be good at what I do. The truth is that the tools I use, hypnosis, thought training, and EFT, are powerful techniques that can change your life. When I work with clients, we work as partners. I do my part and it’s important for you to do yours. The good news is that your part takes about 3 minutes twice a day.

Every client who sees me learns how to use these techniques at home.

Imagine how great you will feel when you relieve your stress and improve your life.

The Secret To Stress Reduction

The Secret To Stress Reduction

What is stress?
Stress is what happens when you worry or have a fear.

3 FACTS about STRESS:

  • Stress can cause a physical reactions.
  • You will always feel bad when you are stressed.
  • You can reduce your stress.

What is happening is that when you are stressed,  you are experiencing a fear.

A fear is really a thought about something BAD that HASN’T HAPPENED YET. It’s a real fear, and the possibility of the negative outcome is real.

What will people think about me?
What will happen if I don’t finish in time?
What if I make a mistake?
If I do this, what will happen?

We can train our thoughts so that when we feel worry, fear, and anxiety, we can ask ourself:

“What is another possibility?”

When we focus on this new possibility, stress no longer needs to be a part of our thinking process.

You can only choose one thought at a time.

You can choose to think about other possible outcomes.

You can choose to change your thoughts.

Choosing a new thought is the first step to reducing stress.

Works every time.

What you Need to Survive a Personal Earthquake

What you Need to Survive a Personal Earthquake

When an earthquake happens, you need to find a effective way to survive it. But not all earthquakes are the same.

Earthquakes come in all forms .

There are physical earthquakes like the one that began in Virginia yesterday and was felt in Philadelphia up to Boston.

Then there are emotional earthquakes. These are the ones that happen to you personally. When emotional earthquakes happen to you, it might feel as if someone has punched the air out of you.  Or you mind find yourself light headed and in shock.

When you experience a personal earthquake you immediately have some choices. You can choose to give in and feel miserable. Or you can choose to experience it the way Caroline Casey has.

Watch how this amazing woman handled her own personal earthquake: (Note: at the 2 min. mark, she drops the bombshell).

Control Your Thoughts on Purpose

Control Your Thoughts on Purpose

Last week a lawyer called me to help a client who is nervous about  testifying.  She has a fear of speaking and combined with the anxiety of being in front of a jury has caused her to be even more anxious.

Her attorney wants me to help her because her fears have taken over her life.  She can’t sleep, she’s overeating, and she’s having trouble focusing when she is at work.

As a Certified Hypnotist, my goal is to help clients reduce their stress and get over their fear of speaking in public.

One of the ways I do this is to help my clients understand that they have the ability to choose their thoughts. Often it feels as if our thoughts are in control of us. Frequently thoughts seem to be random, and it may feel as if you have no control over them.

This is the furthest thing from the truth. In fact, the ONE THING WE CAN CONTROL is our thoughts.

Choosing your thoughts has a measurable benefit. The first benefit is that you will feel better when you think positively. Thinking positively means that you can thing about what you want, rather than what you don’t want.

Simply said, you will feel better when you think about what you do want.

The flip side of this is that you are guaranteed to feel bad whenever you think about what you don’t want.

Need proof that you can be in control of your thoughts? Take a look at Viktor Frankl’s life and his writings. In his book, Man’s Search for Meaning, Frankl describes his life in a concentration camp. Even in the degradation and abject misery of a concentration camp, Frankl was able to exercise the most important freedom of all – the freedom to determine one’s own attitude and spiritual well-being.

Everyday we get the opportunity to choose our thoughts.

How is my client doing? In two sessions her fear has dropped dramatically. When she met me her fear was at a 10. (On a scale of 0 to 10, 10 being the highest.)

She reported that her fear has dropped to a 2. She is sleeping better. She noticed that she is eating less junk food. She can even see herself on the witness stand and imagine herself responding calmly. Is she looking forward to testifying in court? Not really. But she is feeling better about doing it. She is no longer overcome with anxiety.

When you use logic to try to get over our fears you’ll keep on struggling. When you use hypnosis and EFT Tapping to eliminate your negative thoughts where they reside – in the subconscious mind – you can overcome them easily.

Are you choosing your thoughts or are you letting them just happen?

What do you do when you when you want to change some of your thoughts? Please share your tips and techniques!
